The Carthage Courthouse was rebuilt after the original courthouse was burnt to the ground during the Civil War. This magnificent Romanesque Revival building was constructed with Carthage stone and has medieval castle features that include turrets, towers, and arches. An array of historical artifacts, local mining displays, and a wrought iron cage elevator with a full-time operator are located inside the building.
